interested in developing netdump?! netdump has now gone open source under the NETDUMP License Version 1.1 (similar to the apache license) and will be available in the entirety of its source code shortly.

sign up here and ensure your access to the source code, additional information and the entire netdump developer forum!

I am looking forward to your participation in the largest artistic open source project of its kind! gerhard schwoiger.

requirements for the editing and compiling of the source code:

+ one of the following operating systems: Windows 98/ Windows 98SE/ Windows ME/ Windows 2000

+ VisualBasic 6 - recommended: Service Pack 3 or higher!

+ blsOnTopForm Control: download here for free installation

+ MicroTech Labs Ping Control: download here for free installation

+ Dart PowerTCP FTP Tool (1.x or higher): 30-day test version available for download here. repeated installation extends the duration of the evaluation period ... caution: cannot be used for long-term distribution, as the component refuses to work in compiled form after 30 days.
full version available here [different license types available]*.

+ Dart PowerTCP Web Tool (1.x or higher): 30-day test version available for download here. repeated installation extends the duration of the evaluation period ... caution: cannot be used for long-term distribution, as the component refuses to work in compiled form after 30 days.
full version available here [different license types available]*.

+ Lead Technologies Lead Tools 11.5: evaluation-version available for download here (LEADTOOLS multimedia - ActiveX32/VCL Evaluation Toolkit) (only version 12 or higher available now - should also work in this new version)
full version available here [LEADTOOLS multimedia]*

* [in some special cases the costs for these licenses may be covered with the help of sponsors ... send message to trash@netdump.org with reason for your application for financial support]

additionally recommended for the netdump development environment:

+ one or two FTP servers (either in a LAN or the internet) for testing connections, the management suite and file transfers! FTPs store all of the datatrash and the info files (names of files, category, file date, file size, server IP) which are synchronised between servers. the infofiles are then gone through for a rapid search or browse.

+ a HTTP server (also in either a LAN or the internet) - the client applications automatically download updates of client applications, the file extension database (which is responsible for the automatic sorting by file extension and waste category by the recycle bin) and the clients also request information regarding the presence of FTP servers registered on the 'netdump network' to find the best connection.

desirable:

+ visit the netdump developer forum regularly and participate in it actively

+ please document new code when writing it! (unfortunately a large part of the existing code is uncommented or poorly commented. a good documentation will be necessary for further developers, artists and users!)

+ report bugs
Please fill out a netdump bugreport for all detected bugs! Even better: fix the bug and post as bug fix in the developer forum.

+ fix bugs
also, please post a successful bug fix as such in the developer forum! otherwise duplication of work will be inevitable!

+ maximum compatibility
the netdump clients (and possibly the management suite) should be compatible with as many different systems as possible and should be able to run with minimum system requirements. translations of the system to other platforms are especially welcome!

please react especially to the following phrases in the developer forum and try to work on them:

+ "help wanted"
if a developer/artist is stuck working on a bug or a new feature and cannot proceed but deems its pursuit important, the description 'help wanted' should be marked in the forum.

+ "enhancement requests"
simply post ideas and drafts for new features and extensions with the description 'enhancement request' in the forum. if you decide to work on an extension or new feature suggested in the developer forum, please post just that in the forum also!
